| action alert! Some doctors in India are using animal byproducts which are discarded by industries as waste - including bones, fur, and puffer fish skin - for medicinal purposes. Tell Indian officials to stop this dangerous practice! Dear Indra,
Certain industries that profit from animal cruelty now have unlikely allies in Indian doctors. Many doctors in Chennai -- a city in Southern India -- have started using byproducts of animal industries -- animal bones, fur, and puffer fish skin -- parts that would otherwise be considered 'wastes,' for medicinal uses such as bandages and bone grafts. Using potentially unsafe animal wastes for any purpose, even medicinal, only benefits the hazardous industries that profit from animals' deaths. Doctors must stop putting our lives at risk and stop supporting animal cruelty!
Millions of animals are killed and skinned alive to make fur and other animal accessories. A leading global supplier of leather, India produces 230 million meters of hides and skins annually. The leather production process kills hordes of innocent animals and releases numerous toxic chemicals into our air and water. In addition, the process results in tonnes of wastes. Animal wastes are bad for animals and the environment - they have no place in medicine!
The only way to lower the waste output of industries that profit from animal torture is to decrease the demand for their products. Using animal wastes from chemical-heavy factories for human health is not only potentially unsafe, it encourages the continued slaughter of animals.
Tell the Indian Ministry of Environment to stop the use of animal wastes by doctors. | Thank you for taking action,
