Former dictator Rios Montt was recently sentenced to 80 years in prison for ordering the deaths of hundreds of Mayans during his time in office. Now, Guatemala's top court has overturned their own country's conviction.

Rios Montt is the first former head of state to face genocide charges in a court within his own country. His original sentencing showed that a country's leaders can and will be held responsible for horrific crimes against humanity. Guatemalans cheered as they celebrated the historic verdict, and more than 100 witnesses testified during the trial.

To overturn that conviction now is just a further delay of justice for the Mayans who were raped, tortured, and killed on his command.

Rios Montt must pay the price for his country's genocide. Demand that he be convicted of crimes against humanity in his renewed trial.
